Dear Steward: This year there are seven (7) candidates to fill the six (6) vacancies on the Saint Sophia Cathedral Board of Trustees for the 2026/2027-year term.  Per the Archdiocese Uniform Parish Regulations (UPR), Saint Sophia is required to hold an election to vote for these candidates.  Stewards may vote for up to six (6) candidates.  Write-in candidates are not

Fr. Gregory Gatanas assigned to Saint Sophia Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America blessed and formally assigned Fr. Gregory Gatanas to his new ministry, as shown in the accompanying photo with the District Chancellor, the Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Elias G. Villis. Effective December 1, 2025, Fr. Gregory will begin his priestly life as the Assistant Priest at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Fr. CHRISTMAS CARD 2025 LISTING

Dear Friends, It’s that time of the year again when our thoughts turn towards the holidays.  You have responded generously in the past with your time and resources to the needs of our beloved Saint Sophia Community – but don’t stop now!  For over fifty years our annual Community Card has become our traditional way of sharing holiday greetings with each other.  What a wonderful way of sharing the joy with the entire Cathedral community.

Donate a poinsettia for a loved one’s health and/or in memory of loved ones

Dear Stewards,Christmas will find the Nave of Saint Sophia beautified with flowers to enhance the spirit of the holiday. Traditionally about 70 potted poinsettias are arranged throughout the Church. This year stewards of the congregation are invited to donate a poinsettia for a loved one’s health and/or in memory of loved ones.  Names will be commemorated by the Clergy at the Proskomidi (preparation of the gifts for Holy Communion) and during the Christmas Liturgy.
